Great Care for Children
Phoenix College is one of the few colleges that has been awarded the “World Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child” by the Swedish Government. Numerous testimonials have been received and are still coming from parents. We enrolled 16 learners who had lost both parents in the genocide in Rwanda and awarded them bursaries to study from Grade 10 to Grade 12. After they had passed grade 12, we traced their surviving siblings and arranged with various embassies that they continue their graduate studies overseas in the respective countries where their siblings where found. In 2011 two of the learners who had just completed their degrees in Canada came to thank Phoenix College for the role that we had played in furthering their education.
They also mentioned that they were in contact with the other 14 learners that passed their Matric at Phoenix College and were now studying throughout the wolrd in countries like Sweden, England, America,Canada and many others. Because of this episode Phoenix College is well known throughout the world and has recently been featured in the international report, ” Hidden Assets”, issued by the Centre for Development and Entrepreneurship (CDE) and sponsored by the Templeton Foundation in the USA. As a result of that Phoenix College was visited by the Aljazeera TV Station as well as Professor Doctor Steven Ball from the Education Department of the University of London in the UK.
We offer Project Management courses, Entrepreneurship courses which are all SETA registered and Computer Literacy to all academic levels. All Phoenix College learners for grade R to Matric are offered free Computer literacy lessons during school hours.
We are also one of a few colleges that offers Information Technology, a subject covering the “Delphi” programming language according to the Department of Education curriculum. We also teach Mathematics with interactive Softwares that makes it easily understandable. All this enable learners the ability to take additional qualifications to obtain a job once they have finished Matric.
